I was listening to Marina and the Diamonds with my friend, Tiffany, on the bus. She had never really listened to her before, but was like, "I can totally see why you like her." Anywho, 'Sex Yeah' came on, and she looked me dead in the eyes, and asked, "Waitwaitwait, is she saying 'sex' or 'six?'" I wheezed, and answered, but then I started to think:
Marina does talk about the devil an awful lot in her songs--just look at 'Hermit the Frog,' or 'Forget.' Those are both from separate albums, and 'Sex Yeah' is in a different one than both of them. It seems sort of incomplete, with her first and third albums having a devil reference in them, but not her second, yeah?
I do admit, 'Teen Idle' discusses 'burning up [a] bible(s),' but even so, if the 'Sex Yeah' theory seems a little far fetched to somebody, there's some backup.
You can't tell me that it's not even slightly suspicious. _Electra Heart_ is arguably her darkest, most depressing album as well. Who's to say that Marina wouldn't have more than one satanic reference in it, again, going along that there's at least one in her other two albums.
So what if she really is saying 'six,' rather than 'sex?' What if the title is a cover-up, and she really is chanting 'six, six, six, yeah?' What then? Will something along the lines of what happened to (innocent) Melanie Martinez, and fans will drop like flies once a single accusation comes out? I acknowledge that this theory is dumb, and, barely anyone will take the time to read it in its entirety--but I want to get the message across that if something like that just so happens to occur, I don't wish to damage her reputation.
