Ordnance Factory worker at Marchwiel, Wrexham.
You would have been working in the Cordite factory in Marchwiel, Wrexham.
As part of your job you would have been working in a small group of women cutting, dyeing or preparing cordite (a material used in explosives).
You would have made great friends and earned a reasonable wage, but your job was risky. There was the danger of the chemicals themselves, the risk of explosion and the added risk of being a target for the Germans because you would have been vital to the war effort.
Only one German plane would come close to bombing Marchwiel, but thankfully it crashed on site without causing too many problems. Other misguided attempts at locating and destroying the factory resulted in the bombing of Minera Mountain.
