“I’ll build boats for all of you, but as soon as I build it, you have to jump in. The current is really strong here, and at the end of the river is an ugly waterfall with rocks on the bottom. Not fun. I’ll do yours first Aria, then I’ll do Jordan’s and Connor's. You boys can still steer a boat, right?”
Jordan and Connor both nodded.
“Good. Ready, Aria?”
I nodded, tense. I’ve never done this. I mean, I’ve steered a boat before, but I’ve never hopped See More into one on a moving current.
“Ready…set…go!” Irina dropped my boat into the water, and I tried to hop in, but missed. The boat sped downriver and crashed over the waterfall.
“Oops,” I mumbled.
Irina looked at me doubtfully. “You sure you can do this?”
“Yes.” I took a deep breath. I’d get it this time.
And I did. As soon as she dropped the boat, I climbed on, just barely grabbing the rudder and steering upriver. “Got it!” I yelled over the roar of the current.
