The Doctor can't live forever though. He dies on trenzalore. So it is fated. He has just 12 regenerations and then got a new cycle

The Doctor can't live forever, he has 12 regenerations and in one of the episodes he get's 12 more, each regen happens about every 350-425 years, a long time but not forever
