I HAVE A QUESTION FOR ANYONE WHO READS THIS BECAUSE I DON'T FEEL LIKE MAKING A POLL:
Do you care if any author (or anyone else) kills off the main character and switches to a new one? (i.e. if they were to kill off Katniss and use another main character)

I think it would be good if done tastefully. You couldn't randomly kill off the first main character, and their POV would also have to be a sort of precourse for the second main character. It's a unique idea, and if executed well could be a very interesting device to employ within a story.

does anyone know the likelihood of someone surviving a surface fire or a ground fire?
I don't know about the exact times, but it shouldn't take any longer for ten to fifteen minutes for a person to pass out from smoke inhalation and eventually stop breathing. If they're constantly breathing in smoke from that crevice, then they're dead. However, if they're far enough away that they have fresh air, then there's a chance that they'd survive.
